Amazon acquires Rivr, maker of a stair-climbing delivery robot
**Amazon Acquires Rivr, a Zurich-Based Autonomous Robotics Startup**
Amazon has acquired Rivr, a Zurich-based autonomous robotics startup known for its stair-climbing delivery robot, in a deal that signals the e-commerce giant's interest in doorstep delivery. The terms of the deal remain undisclosed.
Marko Bjelonic, co-founder and CEO of Rivr, announced the acquisition on LinkedIn, stating that it will "accelerate our vision of building General Physical AI through doorstep delivery, bringing robotics and AI closer to real-world deployment at scale." This suggests that Amazon's resources will help Rivr deploy its robots on more doorsteps, faster. Bjelonic described the four-legged wheeled robot, which resembles a "dog on roller skates," in a previous interview with _TechCrunch_.
Rivr had been working on a pilot program with Veho, a package delivery company, in Austin. Last year, Bjelonic expressed hopes to learn from the partnership and eventually scale to 100 bots by 2026. However, it is unclear if the company was able to reach that milestone. _TechCrunch_ has reached out to Rivr for comment on the current status of the pilot program and the company's future plans.
Prior to the pilot program, Rivr had already caught the attention of Amazon. The Amazon Industrial Innovation Fund and Bezos Expeditions invested in Rivr as part of a $22.2 million seed round that closed in 2024, according to _Pitchbook_. The startup had raised a total of $25 million and was last valued at $100 million. The acquisition of Rivr by Amazon marks a significant step in the e-commerce giant's efforts to expand its doorstep delivery capabilities.
