**Africa's Future Takers: Alibaba Unveils $1.5m Grants for Innovative Startups** In a major boost to the entrepreneurial ecosystem on the continent, Alibaba Philanthropy and the Jack Ma Foundation have announced a whopping $1.5m in grants for African startups pioneering innovative solutions to the continent's most pressing challenges. This significant investment is part of the 8th edition of Africa's Business Heroes (ABH), a prestigious platform that aims to accelerate the growth of Africa-led businesses. This year's edition of ABH, themed 'Defining Africa's Future Today', will focus on supporting entrepreneurs across various sectors, including climate-smart agriculture, digital finance, healthcare, logistics, manufacturing, and emerging technologies. The platform is designed to not only provide financial support but also offer mentorship and elevate the visibility of African businesses that have the potential to drive lasting economic transformation. Zahra Boateng-Baitie, Managing Director for Africa at ABH, noted that the continent's future is being shaped by entrepreneurs who are addressing its most pressing challenges and unlocking its economic potential. "Beyond the grant funding, ABH equips founders with the strategic support they need to scale sustainable businesses, create jobs, and fuel inclusive growth," she said. To increase accessibility and representation, ABH will expand its recognition pool to the top 100 finalists this year and increase on-the-ground engagement in ten African markets, prioritizing under-represented countries such as Namibia, Tunisia, and Zambia. Past finalists also stand to gain a fully sponsored learning experience at Alibaba's campus in Hangzhou, China. Applications are now open to founders who are African citizens or legal residents, lead registered businesses with at least three years of traction, and demonstrate a commitment to positive societal impact. Since its inception, ABH has received over 30,000 applications annually, solidifying its reputation as one of Africa's leading platforms for solution-driven entrepreneurs.
