The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Sen. George Akume, inaugurated a Technical Committee on Thursday to review a proposed $200 billion integrated gas, power, and high-speed rail project spanning 4,000 kilometres across Nigeria. The initiative, submitted by DE-SADEL Consortium Nigeria Ltd. in partnership with China Lansay Petroleum Investment Holdings Ltd., aims to connect major cities including Lagos, Abuja, Kaduna, Kano, and Port Harcourt. The project, structured as a Public Private Partnership, will fall under the regulatory oversight of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission and is expected to cover all 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Akume stated the project could transform transport infrastructure, boost energy security, and drive industrial growth, aligning with the Federal Government's Renewed Hope Agenda. The Technical Committee, chaired by the Permanent Secretary in the Political and Economic Affairs Office of the SGF, includes representatives from the ministries of transportation, petroleum resources, finance, justice, and environment, as well as the ICRC, CBN, NFIU, EFCC, NIA, and ONSA. Its mandate includes verifying funding sources, assessing technical capacity, reviewing financing models, and evaluating regulatory compliance and security risks. The committee is expected to deliver evidence-based recommendations within a set timeframe. DE-SADEL's CEO, Mr. Samuel Uko, said the rail network would operate at speeds up to 350 km/h, cutting Lagos-Abuja travel time to 2.5 hours, and would integrate gas development, power generation, and fibre-optic infrastructure.
