Akpabio: Opposition Parties Will Remain in Confusion Till after 2027 Elections
**Akpabio: APC Has the Upper Hand, Opposition Parties Will Struggle Till 2027 Elections**
In a recent gathering in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital, Senate President Godswill Akpabio took a swipe at the opposition parties, saying they will continue to struggle in confusion until after the 2027 general election. The event, which was a reception for First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, also coincided with World Women's Day celebrations.
While unveiling the Senior Citizens' Centre named after her and in honour of the late wife of Akwa Ibom State Governor Pastor Umo Eno, the First Lady was joined by the wives of several state governors, including those from Lagos, Imo, Cross River, and others. The occasion turned out to be a massive rally, with the stadium packed with supporters.
Addressing the crowd, Akpabio expressed his confidence in the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its chances of winning the 2027 elections. He mocked the opposition parties, saying they are still trying to form their party and are struggling with internal conflicts.
"It's amusing to see them frown at laws we pass in the National Assembly. Instead of getting their acts together, they are busy breaking up into factions. The Labour Party, which used to have a strong presence, is now struggling to get votes. The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is also having its own internal issues, with multiple leaderships and secretaries.
"Apart from their internal struggles, they are also yet to recover from the shock of our amended Electoral Act," Akpabio said, referencing the opposition's threat to boycott the elections.
The Senate President's comments come at a time when the opposition parties are struggling to find their footing ahead of the 2027 elections. With the APC seemingly in the lead, it remains to be seen how the opposition parties will regroup and respond to Akpabio's jibes.
As Nigeria heads into the 2027 elections, one thing is clear: the APC is confident of its chances, and the opposition parties will have to work hard to catch up. Only time will tell if Akpabio's predictions will come to pass.
