Senator Ahmad Lawan's supporters in Yobe State raised N188 million to support his 2027 governorship ambition under the All Progressives Congress (APC). The fundraising event took place in Damaturu on Sunday, organised by the Coalition of Yobe East Progressive Youths led by Mohammed Yerima. Lawan, former Senate President, acknowledged the effort, stating the funds came through pledges, cash donations, and bank transfers. What stood out was the broad base of contributors, including widows, mechanic apprentices, traders, and students, with some giving as little as N100 and others up to N3,000. Lawan described the move as grassroots participation and community ownership, praising the coalition for redefining progressive citizenship. He said the gesture reflects a shared commitment to open and accountable governance in Yobe State. "My desire to serve is to answer the call of our people. May Allah continue to direct and guide us in this endeavour. Amin," Lawan said.
That ordinary citizens are donating as little as N100 to Ahmad Lawan's campaign suggests deep personal investment in his political future. For Yobe residents, this level of mobilisation signals that Lawan still commands significant loyalty. The scale of small-dollar contributions could reshape how future campaigns are funded in the state. Political ambition backed by micro-donations may now be a viable path in Nigeria's north.
