Afenifere lauds Tinubu’s commitment to state police
**Afenifere Commends Tinubu's Commitment to State Police, Demands Action Against Bandits in the South West**
In a recent statement, the pan-Yoruba socio-political organisation, Afenifere, has lauded President Bola Tinubu for his commitment to establishing state police in Nigeria. According to Comrade Jare Ajayi, the national publicity secretary of Afenifere, President Tinubu deserves praise for his determination to push for state police, which he believes will help address the security challenges facing the country.
Afenifere has also commended the new Inspector General of Police, Mr. Tunji Disu, for taking steps towards implementing state police. However, the organisation has sounded an alarm over the increasing cases of terrorism in the South West region. Afenifere is concerned about the near-daily occurrences of kidnappings and banditry in some states in the region, where lives are being lost and victims are being brutally treated.
In response to this, Afenifere has called on the governments of the South West to take immediate action to tackle the problem. The organisation is urging governments to establish mechanisms to track down bandits, maintain surveillance in areas where they are hiding, and collaborate with the federal government to ensure the swift implementation of state police in their respective states.
Afenifere believes that the problem of banditry in the South West is not insurmountable, as bandits are not spirits or invisible. The organisation suggests that one way to tackle the challenge is to cut off the sources of funding for these bandits, which include some wealthy individuals, organisations, and communities.
The call by Afenifere for action against bandits in the South West is timely, given the growing concern about the security situation in the region. As Nigerians, we can only hope that the governments of the South West will take Afenifere's advice seriously and work towards addressing the problem of banditry and terrorism in the region.
