The Federal Capital Territory minister, Nyesom Wike, rejected the African Democratic Congress's allegation that the party was barred from using Eagle Square for a convention. Speaking in Abuja on Monday during an inspection of the recently damaged Kugbo Bus Terminal, Wike called the claim "unfounded" and suggested it was an effort to attract public sympathy. He said no formal request for the venue had been received from any group, including the ADC.
Wike emphasized that Eagle Square is available to any organization that follows the established procedures and pays the applicable fees. The minister noted that the site is managed by the Abuja Investments Company Limited, which handles applications and revenue collection. "We do not deny access; these events actually generate revenue for the government," he said, adding that he was unaware of any party being denied the space.
The minister also clarified that the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Velodrome falls under the jurisdiction of the National Sports Commission, not the Federal Capital Territory Administration. He reiterated that, at the time of his remarks, no official application for Eagle Square had been lodged with the investment agency.
Wike concluded by urging parties interested in using the venue to submit the required paperwork through the proper channel, indicating that the process would continue as usual.
