6 Killed, 9 Injured in Kogi Auto Crash
A ghastly road accident involving a Toyota Hiace bus and an articulated vehicle along the Lokoja–Obajana road in Kogi State has claimed six lives and left nine others with varying degrees of injuries.
Eyewitnesses said the incident occurred on Thursday night when the Toyota Hiace bus with registration number XW 142 ENU had a head-on collision with a trailer bearing registration number KAB 575 XA coming from the opposite direction.
The Kogi State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Tenimu Yusuf Etuku, confirmed the incident, describing it as fatal and attributing it to excessive speeding by the drivers.

He said the accident occurred at Apata settlement along the Lokoja–Obajana road when the Toyota Hiace bus rammed into the trailer at high speed.
He said, “Seventeen persons (14 male, 3 female) were involved in the accident. Nine (8 male, 1 female) sustained injuries, while six (5 male, 1 female) lost their lives. Two persons were rescued without injury.”
Etuku added that the injured victims had been taken to Fisayo Hospital, Obajana, for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at Ankuri Mortuary in Lokoja.
According to him, items recovered from the scene of the accident included “the sum of N20,800, two bags, two Airtel phones, sack bags and three bags”, in addition to the vehicles involved, which have been handed over to the police at Obajana division.
He advised motorists to avoid excessive speeding on highways in order to reduce road crashes that lead to the loss of lives and property.
