The Federal Government on Tuesday started the prosecution of 500 terror suspects linked to multiple attacks across Nigeria. The trial opened at the Federal High Court in Abuja, with the Attorney General of the Federation stating the suspects were allegedly involved in attacks predominantly in northern regions. The case marks one of the largest mass prosecutions of terrorism-related offences in recent years. The suspects face charges tied to their alleged roles in bombings, armed assaults and other violent acts that have destabilised parts of the country. The Attorney General confirmed the charges cover crimes committed between 2016 and 2023, including attacks attributed to groups like Boko Haram and Islamic State's West Africa Province.

The Attorney General's confirmation that charges span seven years exposes how long these suspects operated with impunity. For Nigerians, this trial is less about justice and more about whether the state can finally prove its case after years of unchecked violence.
