This victory marked a significant moment for Delta State, who have consistently demonstrated their strength in athletics.
The men's 100m final saw Delta State's dominance continue, as Chibueze Ozama sprinted to gold in an impressive 10.42 seconds. Bright Gift from Akwa Ibom State finished second with a time of 10.57 seconds, while Saturday Godswill claimed the bronze medal in 10.59 seconds. Although neither of the gold medal winners set new records, their performances showed great promise for the future of athletics in the Niger Delta region.
The Niger Delta Games have undergone significant changes since its inception, with the current edition restricted to Under-25 athletes. This change has made it more challenging for athletes to break previous records, but it has also provided a platform for young talents to showcase their skills. Favour Ashe's men's record of 10.16 seconds remains unbeaten, but there is hope that Jennifer Chukwuka's women's record of 11.41 seconds could be surpassed soon. With Delta State's consistent performances, the future of athletics in the region looks bright.
