Peter Bassey, president of AAGG, delivered the appeal at a news conference on Wednesday in Abuja, commending Amupitan's competence, transparency, credibility and integrity under Section 154 (1) of the 1999 Constitution.
Bassey pointed out that Amupitan assumed office on Oct. 23, 2025 and has based the commission's work on electoral credibility, transparency and strict adherence to the constitution, the Electoral Act and INEC regulations.
He asked the public not to distract the chairman and to allow focus on off‑circle elections in several states and the forthcoming 2027 polls. "We with humility and in the spirit of true democracy, call on all stakeholders, political parties, civil society groups, the media, and all Nigerians to rally round Prof. Joash Amupitan.
