Also defecting with Shekarau is Bello Hayattu Gwarzo, former Northwest PDP Chairman. Gwarzo cited the PDP's poor performance in recent bye-elections in Ekiti and Ondo states as proof of its declining relevance. "For the fact that the PDP could not even make it to the list of participating parties in recent bye-elections shows that remaining in the party is a risk. We decided that decamping is the best option," Gwarzo said. Both men pledged full support for the APC's 2027 electoral ambitions.
