**PDP's Resurgence: Chieftain Predicts Party's Return to Power in 2027**
As Nigeria inches closer to the 2027 general elections, a prominent chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Olabode George, has expressed confidence that the party will reclaim power at the centre. Speaking at the inauguration of new party managers in Lagos, George revealed that the party's November 2025 national convention in Ibadan marked a turning point in its history, restoring the confidence Nigerians had in the party at its founding in 1998.
The convention, George said, was a rebirth of sorts for the PDP, offering a new hope for Nigerians dissatisfied with the current administration. He claimed that the party has become a formidable platform across the country, with a strong presence from the North to the South, East to West. George's assertion that there is no coalition stronger than the PDP in acceptability among Nigerians is a bold statement, but one that has weight given the party's rich history and influence.
George's comments come as the ruling All-Progressives Congress (APC) faces growing internal strife and defections. The PDP chieftain alleged that APC members are being pressured to defect, but insisted that the PDP remains the only truly national party in the country. He cited the party's internal democracy, as exemplified by the conduct of its congresses and national convention, as evidence of its strength.
George also accused the APC of attempting to undermine the PDP through the electoral umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He claimed that APC's actions are a desperate attempt to truncate the PDP's process, but Nigerians are not fooled.
As the country prepares for the 2027 general elections, George maintained that Nigerians dissatisfied with the APC-led administration since 2015 are eagerly awaiting the opportunity to return the PDP to power. With the party's resurgence in full swing, it remains to be seen whether the PDP can indeed reclaim its position as Nigeria's leading political party.
