The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced its readiness to conduct a fair, credible, and inclusive national convention in 2027. The party's National Convention Coordination Committee Sectariat (NCCCS) has been working to ensure a transparent process.
Chairman of the APC NCCCS, Chief Lateef Fagbemi, represented by Assistant Secretary and Minister of State for Works, Bello Goronyo, made this declaration during a meeting in Abuja. The party has established several committees to address various issues, including legal framework, dispute resolution, documentation, and drafting of legal instruments.
Fagbemi emphasized the importance of inclusivity, stating that the party wants to ensure that all members are involved in the process. A high-powered legal committee has been formed to oversee compliance with the country's laws, including the Constitution and Electoral Act. The committee will work to address potential issues that may arise during and after the convention.
APC's growing strength is attributed to its inclusive approach and internal cohesion. The party remains open to all Nigerians, regardless of their background or region. With its national outlook, APC aims to address the concerns and interests of Nigerians.
The APC's commitment to a fair and inclusive convention is a welcome development. However, the party's track record on this front has been mixed. The decision to form a high-powered legal committee is a positive step, but it remains to be seen whether the party will follow through on its promises. With President Bola Tinubu's administration prioritizing the rule of law, APC's actions will be closely watched. As the party gears up for the 2027 general elections, it must demonstrate its commitment to democratic principles and inclusivity.
