2026 World Cup: Mexico president speaks on security, mobility arrangements

President Claudia Sheinbaum has said that FIFA will review security and transportation arrangements in Mexico ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking to reporters on Friday, Sheinbaum disclosed that she recently held a telephone conversation with FIFA President Gianni Infantino, who assured her that matches scheduled to take place in the country would go ahead as planned.
The 2026 World Cup will be jointly hosted by Mexico, United States and Canada between June 11 and July 19.
The planned review follows security concerns arising from recent violence linked to the reported death of cartel leader Nemesio Oseguera, also known as “El Mencho.” Despite the situation, the president maintained that there is no risk to fans expected to attend the tournament.
